Put a prevention team in your workplace!
Before we say what PEER PLUS is,
let's say what it isn't.
- PEER PLUS IS NOT AN ORGANIZED "SNITCH TEAM" ON
A WITCH HUNT
- PEER PLUS IS NOT A SAFETY PROGRAM
- PEER PLUS TEAM MEMBERS ARE NOT ALCOHOL OR DRUG
COUNSELORS
- PEER PLUS IS NOT A COMPLAINT DEPARTMENT
- PEER PLUS IS NOT A GUISE FOR TESTING
PEER PLUS makes use of grass roots
volunteers, organized from within a company. PEER PLUS TEAMS are
comprised of fellow employees who have a strong desire and the necessary
drive to promote a drug and alcohol free workplace.
The PEER PLUS program is a coordinated
prevention program designed to promote responsible behavior and thus reduce
problems related to the use of chemical substances on the job or during
the time an employee is subject to be called to work.
PEER PLUS TEAMS through their training
program learn "how to confront" a fellow employee who comes to work under
the influence of drugs or alcohol or uses them while on the job. They
learn "how to refer" a recreational user or a troubled addicted person
to confidential counseling within a company (if available) or to free
or low-cost help within the community. But the most important part PEER
PLUS TEAMS play is in the prevention of drug or alcohol on the job.
This is a "down to earth" way to help peers with a volunteer effort to
receive help and avoid forced disciplinary action which could result in
termination. Offering help to drug and alcohol abusive or dependent employees
makes good business sense.
The goals of prevention are endless. .
. from improved productivity to reduced accidents; from improving morale
to the ultimate goal of a drug and alcohol free labor force. An effective
prevention program is most appealing to non-users; it says "We don't use
drugs or alcohol on the job and we don't want to work with people who
do!"
